outfit. His parents were going to kill him, but Seth didn't care. They couldn't really control him very well anymore, but the thought of them murdering their only son made him shudder, then laugh. The darkness of the night was creeping up on him, bringing the cold. It wasn't going to rain for a few days, and he was glad of that. At least he wouldn't have to walk home soaking wet. Assuming he even went home tonight. He wasn't really planning on it. Especially if he happened to find a girl to play with for the night. He was a teenage boy, what do you expect? Chuckling, Seth made his way into the Modest Mistress, letting the warmth of the place envelope him. It smelled like the drunken rich kids he disliked hanging around, but it was warm, and they had wine. Good, fancy wine. And he could afford it after his paycheck from his new job. Ugh. He hated working. At least he didn't have to ask his parents for money anymore.
Seth dropped down into one of the only barstools available in the whole bar. Seeing as it was a Saturday, he wasn't surprised. He didn't really want to be in such a crowded place, but did he have any other option? No. So he was gonna make due, snotty rich kids or not. He asked the bartender for a glass of wine and he came back with three different bottles, all a different shade of white. "How about a red one? I like those better." He chuckled as the man scurried off, obedient to anyone who looks rich. Seth had the posture for the upper-class, but nothing else. The man took his time and Seth swiveled around in his chair, looking out at the bodies on the dance floor, touching everywhere. some of them were fey, but they weren't going to bother him tonight. He wouldn't let them. Wouldn't even let a single one of them talk to him. He was determined. As the bartender came back, Seth picked a bottle at random and waited for the man to pour him a glass. When it was filled with the dark liquid, he took a sip, liking the taste. It tasted like... unrealistic things. Which was odd. Usually, wine just tasted like wine. This wine tasted like earth and age and wisdom. He didn't even know wisdom had a taste until now. Oh well. He took another sip, smiling to himself as the strange taste coated his tongue and he slipped off into his won little world.

Shine leaned back against the cool marble of the soaring pillar, her bright blue eyes narrowed. She'd spotted him the moment the doors to The Modest Mistress had swung aside to let him in. And she was in the mood for a distraction. He intrigued her. She was used to seeing gorgeous fey, there was nothing special about that. But a human this beautiful was a rare find indeed. Her silver nails tapped impatiently against the pillar. She wasn't exactly the type of girl who just went up to a guy. She was never that desperate, they just came to her. But this human boy could see the fey. That much was obvious, the way his eyes followed them. And she could tell that he didn't like it. Or maybe he liked it and didn't want to? but either way, she thought he might take a little convincing.
Shine frowned, but it didn't take her long to come up with a solution to her little problem. She swung her flaming red hair a little, pleased with herself. If anyone had been watching her, they would have seen the sly look in her eyes when she summoned a waiter. She gave him a dazzling little smile, her eyes wide, the innocent little girl that everyone wanted to see in her. sure. that was how she was. not. 'excuse me?'.
Shine could hardly keep the amusement off her face as the waiter bustled off, eager to please her. Though really he was only setting up the pretty human boy. Now he might just be able to please her. Enough standing around, though, her plan was in motion. She only had to arrive. Shine took delicate light steps, weaving around people and sliding her tiny frame into the seat next to the boy. Shine ordered a drink, kind of like what the boy was sipping, except she had a feeling that she would handle hers better.
The song switched, the new one pounding out guitars with a sort of sinister underlying feel. Shine tapped on the counter top, her hands divided into flitting patterns of pale flesh by her lace fingerless gloves. She cast a sly glance at the boy under her lashes. He should have had enough by now. She stood up, turning to the dance floor. She brushed past him, so close she could see straight into his eyes and feel his breath on her cheek. When he was sitting and she was in 6 1/4" heels they were the same height. She gazed into his eyes for a split second, all her charm and allure pooled into her huge blue eyes for that moment, her fingers trailed along his chest as she walked away onto the dance floor. 'Dance with me.' It wasn't a question.

Seth took another sip of his wine and went for more when he noticed that it was already all gone. What the hell? He hadn't expected it to be gone so fast. The bartender poured him another one without being asked and the blond took yet another sip. His head was already spinning, and he couldn't help but think someone had spiked it with something more than just vodka. Like, Everclear or something. He frowned. After one glass, he was already feeling drunk and useless. And Seth could handle a lot more than that without feeling buzzed in the least bit. He scanned the crowd again, trying to pick out faces in the mass of dancing bodies. One of the faces was looking at him, big blue eyes, bright red hair, and... were her ears pointed. He looked back to his drink quickly. He wasn't supposed to stare at the fey. At all. It was one of his rules so he didn't get something done to him. He absently touched his stomach, where the red, angry scar was from his attack when he was twelve. He never wanted that to happen again. He liked his body in one piece, thank you very much.
When he was about half-way finished with his second glass, the faerie with the bright blue eyes that looked almost cartoonish came over to sit in the stool next to him. His eyes instinctively looked her over, taking in her curves and the shape of her mouth. He closed his eyes for a second, remembering only faintly that he shouldn't flirt or interact with faeries. But as she came closer, he opened his eyes, staring into hers, shivering as her hand ran down his chest. One night with a faerie wouldn't hurt, right? Although, the last time they'd tried to tie him up with his own hair so they could poke things into him. He shuddered at the thought. But as the girl's words spilled out of her sweet mouth, his will was no longer his own and he got up, pulling a few bills out of his pocket to pay the bartender for whatever drink he'd indulged in.
Seth took the girl by the arm, pulling her toward the dancers. Seth usually avoided dancing when he was drunk (because he was sure he was just normal-drunk, not faerie-drunk), but this girl had asked, no, demanded that he dance with her. And Seth was just too much of a gentleman to do turn her down. Besides, he wanted to taste her soft lips before he left. And he knew she'd let him. the look in her eyes was the same one he had when he looked at her. Damn, isn't he pretty. I bet he'll be good in bed. he chuckled to himself, spinning the faerie girl around in a tight circle as he moved to the music, trying very hard not to do anything completely stupid or embarrassing. He had to give this girl points if she got him to actually dance when he was drunk. He pulled the girl against his chest and grinned at her. "I'm Seth," he said, his voice not quite a slur, but still not normal. He spun her away from him again quickly, watching her body move.

Shine suppressed a smile as the boy pulled her out onto the dance-floor. Everything was going according to plan. Of course, why wouldn't he want her? Shine was surprisingly light on her feet and sturdy for the stilettos that she sported. She could tell he was feeling the drink. Good. She would like to think that he would have danced with her without the influence of his special little drink, but that wasn't likely. She was pretty, beautiful, even, but she was still fey. Shine liked to dance, though, was good at it and she knew it made her look good. One advantage of being small was that her body was delicate, controllable.
The boy pulled her close to him. He felt so strong, so much larger than her, safe, even if it wasn't true. Shine finally let a little smile pass her lips, when he offered up his name. Progress, but she was in no hurry, she could take all night if she wanted. She toyed with the idea of not answering him. What would he do if he didn't know her name? Would he ignore that, would he even care? She was curious, but decided not to leave him hanging too long. She had him now, no reason to push things. Though she did like to push things.'Shine.' she replied, tilting her head up to look in his eyes, her face catching the light, making her red hair shimmer, 'Does it fit me?' she asked flirtatiously.
Shine twined her arms around Seth's neck, stretching upward to reach. She was taller with her heels, but still no giant. Things were going well so far. He had reacted the way she wanted, humans usually did, but he seemed a little different the most. Different even more than that he was beautiful. She wondered what it was about him. The music pounded in her ears, sending little vibrations down her spine. Heaven. Shine wished she could freeze the world in the moment it was at. She wouldn't ever have to go back to her house where her brother waited, angry, scary, who wouldn't let her be. But the music played on, so she only pressed closer to Seth, triumphant that she had him right where she wanted him.
Shine kept her eyes on his. She felt she could hold him forever if he didn't look away. Like the power of her gaze could keep him here, wanting her. But not without the drink, some part of her mind teased her. She didn't want to admit that having to get the him drunk before he would want this bothered her. Shine was mildly annoyed with herself for needing that inspiration. I didn't really need it, she told herself, not believing it, not really. Shine wanted to kill her own inner-self, because it was becoming more of a challenge than she had bargained for. Could she make him want her without any special influence? Damn it! She wanted to know now, but she certainly wasn't going to find out tonight, it was a little late for that. [/blockquote]

Seth really hadn't expected the girl to say her name. It would have bothered him, but not extremely. He just hated not knowing someone's name if he planned on doing anything with them. It made him seem pathetic, worse than comparing a girl to a video game character, which several of his friends, the human male ones, had. "Shine?" he asked, tasting the name on his tongue. She was definitely a faerie. If the pointed ears, too big eyes, and inhuman beauty hadn't tipped him off, it was her name. You just didn't see faeries walking around, calling themselves Jessica or Max. Well, not usually. Even the changelings had exotic names, like Robin or Neef. "Very much so," he murmured in response, watching her fiery hair shimmer in the strobe light. At least he knew her name now. Not her true name, but it was something to call her. His body swayed a bit, not to the music, but the wine inside his body, pumping in his veins, making him almost giddy with desire for the little elf girl that he held in his arms.
When her arms twined around him, he blushed a bit, but not because he wasn't used to that kind of stuff from girls, or even guys, but because almost every faerie in the whole bar was staring at them with their big eyes, some of them even daring to come closer and pinch his ribs or stroke his hair. He didn't look away from Shine, knowing if he even acknowledged their touches, his secret would be out. And he didn't need any more faeries stalking him this week, thank you very much. One of his hands were on her hip, pulling her body closer to his, able to feel her curves pressed against his skin. Too close for comfort, his drunken mind had the sense to scream. He didn't touch the fey it was against the rules. But here he was, actually dancing with one. He smiled to himself, leaning down to press his lips to hers, for a short second, just to taste. He tried not to kiss when he was drunk, either, but he was sure this girl wouldn't mind too bad. It was almost as if she was the one who'd picked out the wine for him. One of his hands slid up her arm to the back of her neck, knotting up inn her bright hair. His other wrapped around her waist tightly. He smiled again.
"Shine. Such a pretty name," he purred at her before crushing his lips against hers, pulling her off the ground by almost an inch so he wouldn't have to stoop to kiss her soft mouth so much.

Shine was mildly concerned that she didn't seem to have any control over her own eyes. They stared straight into Seths even when she told herself to look away. She wasn't used to being hooked, the one who couldn't look away. Part of her wondered if he was really human, because to her something about him was strangely magical, enchanting. She smiled at him when he repeated her name. Her name did fit. She could almost imagine herself glowing, a sort of fiery inner light, burning.
The other fey surrounded her and Seth. Their attention wasn't surprising. She knew that what she was doing was... unorthodox to say the least. The fey and humans didn't really mix. Unless the fey were doing something particularly mean to the human. But they certainly didn't dance together and stare into each others eyes. That just wasn't done. But Shine didn't care. She would do as she liked. The fey were prodding at Seth, making Shine bristle angrily. They didn't have any right to him, she had gotten there first. She was able to disconnect her eyes for just and moment and shot the other fey a venous glare, pleased with herself as most of the backed off. It wasn't that she was intimidating, but Ryk, her brother, was known for doing nasty things to anyone who upset her.
As Seth pulled her closer to him, Shine tightened her grip. There was no way she was letting go any time soon, no matter what the other fey thought. He kissed her and she could still taste the exotic fey wine on his lips. A mix of pleasure and guilt swept through her. Shine was a pretty name and she felt like she didn't deserve it. His fingers were twining through her hair. A pretty name and she only felt pretty on the outside. But then he was kissing her again, lifting her off the floor and she pushed the guilt away, pulled him closer. She didn't close her eyes the way a lot people did. She wanted to see right back into his, because if she closed her eyes, she was afraid she would open them and he would be gone.
Shine broke off the kiss, her breath coming a little faster than usual. She didn't let go of him, though. She let her eyes trace the lines of his beautiful face. She felt the guilt return, slam into her and she wanted to find some way to excuse it. She didn't know why she felt guilty. It was just a little bit of fun for the fey, but... it didn't feel like that anymore. 'Why aren't you afraid of me?' she asked him, because it couldn't just be the drink. He knew what she was and he hadn't looked like the sort of boy who wanted anything to do with the fey. The drink might have influenced him, but he hadn't looked exactly thrilled about the rest of them. Shine wanted to believe that there was something else. That he might still look at her like that one day if he wasn't drunk. [/blockquote]

Seth tried hard not to frown when she pulled back from the kiss. Her lips tasted better than he could have imagined. But then again, he'd never kissed a faerie before and really mean it. He'd kissed a few over the years, but it was mostly so they'd stop screwing with his head. When she spoke, he did frown, biting his lip. He really wasn't sure why he wasn't afraid of her. She looked petite and vulnerable, just like any of the fey. And he was terrified of that appearance, even on humans. One of the reasons he didn't like screwing around with younger girls. But this girl named Shine... He just didn't want her hands off him. Why? He should be scared. He knew that. "I... don't know. I should be. I mean, you're a faerie, right?" he said, looking away from her big blue eyes. He heard a few gasps from the fey still drifting around them, one of their hands on his hips, digging his nails into his pale skin. God, it hurt, but he wasn't gonna react. He could pretend she'd taken her glamour off. Right? But he knew he'd just killed himself.
Seth's lips pressed against hers for a moment as he tried to think of a good reason for them not to tear his eyes out, or drink his blood like vampires would. How could he be so stupid? He honestly didn't care, as long as he hand the thin little elf girl pressed against him and had her bright gaze on his face. He glanced over at the other dancers, but they didn't seem to care what the two were doing, too busy screwing in corners or seducing so they could screw in corners as they swayed to the music. He was jumpy all of the sudden and he could feel the wine fogging him up again to cover it up. "I need to get out of here. Get some fresh air," he told her, his lips close to her ear, and he almost kissed the side of her face. He had some restraint, though "You wanna come with me, or hang around with your, er, friends." He didn't want to stay and find out what was gonna happen to him i he stayed with the other fey around. It sent a shiver through him, which was quickly wiped away by the wine's influence.

Shine could see his confusion and it made her heart ache a little. She shouldn't have started all this with the drink. She was selfish, wretched girl. But she was a very good faerie. If that was how she wanted to think about it. She didn't really want to be a faerie at the moment. It was the first time she could remember wanting to be human. To be a normal girl that this human boy could like without tricks. 'Yeah, I am.' she wasn't going to lie to him. Didn't want to.
Shine winced as the other fey registered his words. They knew that he knew and that could only lead to trouble. She felt suddenly protective of him. She flashed her eyes at the nearest fey, the one with his fingers dug painfully into Seth's hips. Shine was not going to stand for that. She might not be scary, but her brother certainly was, not that he'd actually do anything to defend a human, but Shine could still use his name. 'You need to leave him alone. now. and me, for that matter. You don't want to know what Ryk will do to you if he finds out that you ruined my evening.' Shine spat at the jeering fey.
She felt a little rush of hope that maybe Seth didn't hate her, even though she was a faerie, as he kissed her again. She didn't want him to hate her. He looked scared, though. And he should be. The fey don't like it when humans can see them. Seth wanted to leave, he told her. Shine twined her fingers in Seth's, looking up into his face. 'They're hardly my friends,' Shine glared at the other fey. 'Besides, I don't think you're in much of a condition to get yourself... wherever you're going.' The guilt twinged again. 'Especially if they're after you.' and I don't want to leave you, don't want you to leave me. Shine finished the thought silently, wishing she had the nerve to say them out loud. [/blockquote]

Seth brought their entwined hands up ad kissed the back of hers. "You're probably right," he murmured against her skin, frowning a bit. He wasn't seeing very well, and all the colors were flowing together. He couldn't see very far past Shine's face, but he really didn't need to. He knew that even though she was a faerie, she was gonna take care of him. He hoped. The faerie who'd been digging his fingers into him pulled back and disappeared into the crowd. He could feel his t-shirt and jeans starting to get sticky with blood. Crap. He hated it when he was in any sort of pain more than the next guy. He could see two vampires in the corner of the bar look up and start sniffing the air before homing in on his scent. He closed his eyes tightly for a moment, taking in a very deep breath before looking back down at the faerie in his arms. He tugged on her hand, leading her out of the bar and trying not to let anyone but her touch him. His hip burned painfully, but he wasn't gonna react until the night air was on his skin.
Once they were outside, he turned around and pushed her up against the wall, too drunk and weak to do her any damage, just startle her a bit. He put his hands on the wall next to her face and glared at her. "So, do you have some sort of hidden motive that I'm not picking up on here, Shine?" he asked her, meaning to be harsh, but that tone just wouldn't take and his words came out in a kind, slightly hurt way. What the hell was wrong with him? She was a faerie. He shouldn't even be looking at her. And yet, Seth couldn't seem to look away. "What did you do to me? I don't even look at fey, let alone...." he trailed off and sighed to himself. He brought his mouth to hers for a moment, and reveled in the feel of it. "Do this," he finished lamely and pulled back, dropping his hands to his sides and trying not to feel miserable. It was already pitch black outside, which was odd, since it had been sunset when he'd walked in. Time was just lost to him at the moment. It would be dawn in what felt like an hour, he knew, and he wouldn't be able to do a thing about it.

Shine could feel a sort of tingle in her hand where Seth kissed it. She couldn't remember ever knowing someone who could do that to her. It was like he was electrically charged. She wanted to get out of here with him, to go somewhere where the fey wouldn't be, staring at them. It made Shine nervous; what if Ryk found out? Shine shivered, as they exited the building.
She wasn't as surprised as most girls would be when he shoved her up against the wall, accusing. She could feel the cool stones of the building pressing against her bare shoulders, but she ignored that. Shine stared right back Seth's eyes. When he kissed her she thought the world had dropped out from under her. She wanted him to want her, really want her the way she had wanted him when she'd seen him. She hadn't needed any wine to know she wanted that.'I...' she didn't have another motive, really, not anymore. 'I don't want to hurt you, Seth. I never did. I swear.' She swallowed. She shouldn't tell him about the drink; he would hate her, and he already looked hurt, both emotionally and physically. But she wanted to be honest with him. She wanted him to say it was alright and mean it. She wanted him to know what she had done and want her anyways.
'I, I had the waiter switch your drink. You had faerie wine instead of regular stuff. It gets humans drunk fast, and they don't perceive things the way they normally would, but no one does when they're drunk.' the words came out in a rush, 'But Seth, listen, you have to believe me. I was never gonna hurt you. I...' Shine swallowed nervously, she didn't want him to hate her, didn't know how she would bear it. 'I just, I thought you were beautiful. You are beautiful. But I'm fey, Seth, and humans don't want the fey, they never do, unless their judgment is... impaired.'
Shine felt her breath coming a little faster, afraid of what he would say; her words wouldn't stop. 'I felt bad about it. I regret it. I really do, and I don't. Do you think you would have wanted me without it? But, please, don't try to leave like this. They'll come after you if you leave me here. You know they would. And you're hurt,' Shine knew she probably shouldn't, but she couldn't help herself from gently touching the wound on his hip. 'I can help. please.' Her last words came out soft, almost too quiet to hear. Shine looked up at him with huge eyes, hardly daring to breathe. Why was she doing this? This wasn't like her. But she just had to. Seth stayed silent as she spoke, and his mind got a little clearer as she explained, just enough to pay attention to her voice instead of the shape of her lips, the curve of her breasts, or the feel of her breath on his face. He wanted to be angry with her for giving him faerie wine, so much, but he just couldn't. Her voice and eyes were pleading for forgiveness. When she called him beautiful, he blushed, unable to help it. He'd been called all kinds of things, from sexy to annoying and back again, but never beautiful. not even his mother called him beautiful. Just handsome. It sent a thrill through his body at that. He could feel her breathing picking up and he wanted to hold her, but he just couldn't. Not yet. She had to finish first. Her words stung him, though; he couldn't help flinching. If he hadn't gotten drunk, he probably wouldn't have even considered dancing with her. But then again, she probably wouldn't have come up to him if he was sober. Seth reached out a hand and caressed her cheek softly, a smile on his lips. "I hate to say this, but you are right. I would have went home within ten minutes of you talking to me and never even look back once," he told her, biting into his bottom lip, which was pierced with a ring of stainless steel. When he knew werewolves were gonna be around, he used sterling silver, and gold when vampires were about.
But he stopped breathing when she touched his damaged hip, feeling his whole body respond with a flush of heat. His skin where she'd touched him tingled, like he'd been shocked, and it numbed the pain a bit. He wanted her to touch him again. When he heard her whispered words, he couldn't help himself and kissed her again, this time not pulling back until he forgot how to breathe. "I want you to help me. I know I'm stupid for asking, but I know no one else will," he told her, his lips against her neck now, his body closer to hers than before, but not quite touching her yet. His arm went around her waist and she was against him and he moved his mouth back to hers. "So help me, Shine," he purred, loving the way her name tasted on his tongue.

Shine felt almost sick as she waited for Seth to reply. She had been too scared, too upset, to try to catch how he was reacting when she had been talking. But she knew that the words had to hurt him, at least a little, and it hurt her too. His hand brushed her cheek and Shine resisted the urge to take his hand in hers and just refuse to let go. And he admitted she was right. He would have left her there if he had been able to think about it. It stung to know that what she'd done was necessary, but she'd known it all along, really. And he hadn't walked away yet. She barely allowed herself to hope that maybe he wouldn't at all.
She hadn't expected the kiss and it stole her breath, made her dizzy, but she reveled in the feeling. Shine was shocked by his response, but a sense of relief and joy washed over her. He wasn't throwing her away. And the faerie in her was screaming that she was crazy, that this was crazy, but it was such a small insignificant scream. He pulled her close, so close, and she found she had that same sense of safeness in his arms that she had experienced on the dancefloor. He wanted her, was actually asking her to help him. Shine felt her eyes blur, holding back tears of relief.
'I promise.' she told him. She would help in every way she could. She wanted to make everything better, would. Shine stared up into his gorgeous eyes before pulling back and taking his hand, loving his strength and warmth. 'Come on,' she said, tugging on his hand gently, leading him down the street. 'We need to get you fixed up.' she paused, wavering for a moment on where to take him. 'We're going to a hotel. It probably wouldn't be a good idea for you to meet my brother.' That was putting it mildly. She stopped moving and turned to look at him. She wanted Seth to see the truth in her eyes, 'He would hurt you and,' Shine paused, biting her lip, wondering if it was too forward to say, 'I think that would hurt me too.'

Seth released his grip on her when she pulled back, unable to resist her strength anyways. Yes, faeries were stronger than humans, even if they were petite and lithe like Shine. And he was drunk and bleeding, so she would be the one really calling the shots tonight. He pressed his lips together when she mentioned a hotel and her brother. The hotel idea he couldn't help liking, but the idea of her brother didn't appeal. And when she explained to him what he would do, he could see in her eyes that hurting both of them was an understatement. "I'm cleverer than you think I am, Shine. I've dealt with the fey before. Your brother is probably not the worst thing I've dealt with." He was too out of it to explain that, but she'd probably ask him about the scar on his stomach later, if she even asked him to pull up his shirt so she could fix his bleeding hip. He could tell it was in bad shape because the blood was dripping down his pant leg and soaking his socks, dying them scarlet.
Seth let the faerie girl drag him in the direction of the hotel and he was starting to lose feeling in his right leg. His body ached, and he was winding down from the wine. It mey get him drunk faster, but the effect wasn't too lasting with just one glass. If she had let him drink more, he'd probably be off his head for a day or so. But time didn't really seem to pass, so he had no idea how late it was, even. He tried not to speak all that much, knowing whatever came out wouldn't sound all that clever. But he couldn't help asking, "Why'd you pick me, anyways? You know I can see you. You should have wanted to tear my eyes out and make me eat them or something," he said, his voice husky and still sounding slurred, but not even half of what it had been before. He thought that after the wine wore off, he'd just bolt, but he didn't want to leave her alone. He didn't want to leave her, period. There was something about her. It wasn't because of her vulnerable looks, but it was the feelings she sent through him. The electric charges he felt when they touched. He didn't want to run from those; he welcomed them with open arms.

Shine frowned, worried about all the blood Seth was losing. It wasn’t good. She was relieved when the hotel swam into view. Good thing she had a credit card, too. She wanted to get him safe. He didn’t seem to completely understand about Ryk, though. ’You have to look at it this way. Think of the sort of things the fey do to you when they find out you can see them. It’s awful, you obviously know that. Now, think of what the fey, my brother in particular, would do to you if they catch you with their little sister.’ Shine almost added something else, but chose not to. She didn’t want to scare him too bad. He might want to leave her.
’I… I don’t know why.’ she answered his question honestly. ’I’ve never been much into messing up humans. Not really my thing. But, then I saw you and… I mean, don’t you feel it?’ She turned her eyes on him, wondering how much it would hurt if he said no.
The foyer of the hotel was bright and shiny; Shine could see her reflection in the marble floor. She tugged Seth along behind her to the reception desk. Shine knew the hotel as well as she knew her own house. It was one perk of having her own credit card. She had a room paid for all year. Someone else cleaned it and she got some privacy from her brother. Not that he knew she was living in the hotel a good 85% of the time. He thought she only used it when she was out too late to walk home. But he wasn’t home much, so he hadn’t noticed that she’d practically moved out. The night receptionist, Stan, was eyeing her suspiciously, but she had to talk to him real quick, for her own protection. ’Hey Stan, listen, if Ryk shows up, make sure to give me a call and don’t you dare give him a key.’
Stan narrowed his eyes at her, but nodded. She knew he might tell Ryk she had a boy with her, but she could deal with that. She had before. Shine led Seth to the golden grated elevator and slid the grate open. The ride up to her hotel was smooth, but Shine bounced nervously on the balls of her feet. She could see Seth losing blood and strength by the second. She practically dragged him into her hotel room, she needed to concentrate.
’Ok, stand there.’ She positioned him in front of her. Shine reached nervously for the swirling energy inside of her. It was the thing that humans call magic, but Shine knew better. It wasn’t really magical. It was energy, they just knew how to transfer it, direct it the way they wanted. Shine felt herself connect to the energy; she had it now. Controlled it. She reached out to Seth, tugged his T-shirt off so she could get a better view. She almost paused to ask about the scar on his stomach, but restrained herself. It wasn’t important now. She couldn’t see all of his wound; it was half covered by his jeans. Shine stepped a little closer, slid her finger under the waist band of his jeans, feeling his hip bone beneath, her fingers quickly slick with his blood. She rested her palm against the wound and breathed in deeply.
She’d never tried to heal a human before. She didn’t know if it would work the same way as it did on other faeries. She knew, though, that when she released the energy into him it would hurt, a lot, but it would also heal, feel good. It was hard to explain. She looked at his face. ’Get ready’ and then she pushed her hand hard against the wound, released the energy, fed it into him. At the same time, Shine twined her other arm around his neck, pulled him close to her and pressed her lips to his, using her connection to him to strengthen the energy of the ‘magic’. Shine found herself dizzy with the loss of the energy and when she couldn’t push out any more, she stumbled away from him, sinking on to the bed, shaking.
The transfer of energy could take a hard toll on the user. Shine shivered; she was freezing, she’d given Seth her strength, her life force, and it would take time to regenerate it. Shine knew she must look so unearthly, her skin even paler than usual, her small body trembling, and she was afraid to look at Seth, because if it hadn’t worked then there was nothing else she could do for him, especially not in this state. Seth's vision was blurring at it was hard to see what was in front of him. His skin felt clammy, and he wondered how exactly a faerie could hurt him like that, just by digging his fingers in his skin. His whole right pant leg was soaked with blood now, and he was half-limping behind Shine. He could barely see the back of Shine's head and he knew it wasn't just the wine that was doing it. He barely even registered her speaking, just nodded, agreeing with whatever she said. His energy was below zero and his breathing was labored. He wanted to curse at the faerie who'd done that to him, but he couldn't find his voice. His grip on her hand weakened, but she was holding onto him tight enough so that he continued to follow her. By the time they made it to the hotel, he was starting to see spots in his vision and everything looked like it was gonna go black any second. When she spoke to Stan, he looked over at him and smiled weakly in response to the glare, to drained to leer at him or do any of his usual responses. The elevator made his stomach lurch and he groaned a bit as he was carried up several floors, leaning against the wall. Shine had to practically drag him into her room.
When they entered into her room, he winced a bit, but stood where she put him. Seth watched her small form curiously, but didn't ask questions. When she pulled his shirt up, he hissed in pain, the soft fabric grazing against the wound and making his sides erupt with flames. He knew that at least two of his piercings to his sides had been torn out, and those would take weeks to heal before he could get new ones. He blushed as her hand slipped down the waistband of his jeans, touching the rest of the wound and making him moan softly in pain and pleasure. Seth liked being touched, but he disliked the burning pain. He gritted his teeth when she told him to get ready, and not a second later, her hand was pushing against his wound. He would have screamed if her lips weren't against his. He kissed her back, needing the distraction from the pain, one of his arms going around her waist loosely. His whole body was nothing but pain, but he knew she was healing him, and the tingling feeling he'd felt when she touched him before was back, on his hip again, this time clearing his mind more than her 'magic' was.
As she pulled back and fell onto the bed, Seth did the same, laying next to her and trying to remember how to breath properly. The bleeding had stopped, and his head wasn't throbbing anymore. Even the spots were gone. But what had that done to Shine? He looked over at her out of the corner of his eyes, unable to roll over in case he reopened the wound. If that was really possible now. "You... alright... Shine?" he asked her softly, pushing himself up onto his elbow and looking down at her shaking body. He reached out his other hand and cupped her cheek. He'd never seen a faerie actually use 'magic' before, just the glamour they used to hide what the really were. Shine's own glamour was fading, and he could see her true form even better. Her big eyes and fiery hair and pointed ears stood out more to him. He had the Sight, but it was interesting to see one that wasn't hiding from the humans with a fake face. He leaned down and kissed her on the lips softly, able to feel how cold she was compared to him. "C'mon, stay awake. For me," he whispered into her ear softly, not wanting to be alone.
