The night was growing near and the air was getting colder. Katarzyna was getting more and more paranoid by the minute; it was just how she got when she was alone at night time. You think she would used to it by now since she had been alone for quite a while. But it was just something she could never get over. She really didn’t have to worry about Vampire’s as she seemed to be immune to their senses; they could smell or hear her when she was in hiding from one. The only way there would know she was there would be if she was to jump out in front of them waving her arms around, screaming I’m here, I’m here. Lucky for her she wasn’t about to just go ahead and do that. Although there was this one time when a vampire did stumble across her but he wasn’t like every other Vampire she had come across in her days alone. He was kind and a little sweet. She would never forget him. His name was Wolfgang. She smiled at the thought of him and she kind of wished that he was here right now; he always made her feel safe. She wasn’t sure where he was.
Kat shoved her hands into her pockets and walked alone the broken concrete path. She walked like she had some place to go. In all honesty she didn’t really have anywhere to go she just hated walking slow, it left herself open for attacks, not only by supernaturals but from other humans as well. There were plenty of humans out there that would love to get their hands on her, just because she was young. It made her sick to the stomach every time she thought about what humans did to one and another. They didn’t realise that there were much stronger forces out there, and it should be them that they had their eyes on, not her. She just didn’t want to be alone anymore, if only there was a place that she could be safe and not have to worry about being attacked every time she closed her eyes. She knew that there wasn’t a place like that for her and she just needed to get over it and deal with what was at hand. She saw a little cafe up ahead and she smiled. Maybe in there she might be able to get some food and she might be safe for a little longer. Boy was she wrong.
Kat didn’t even make it to the cafe, as she walked past the opening to an alley way that was next to the cafe she was grabbed by the arm and pulled into darkness. All the air was knocked from her body and she wasn’t even able to muster a scream. Inside the dark alley way she could feel cold and strong arms around her upper body. She was frozen with fear and she couldn’t even kick out with her legs. What help it would bring her she didn’t know. She tried to look up at her attack but it was too dark to see their face. Soon others came and voices entered her ears. Lookie here, what have do we have here? One voice asked, it was male Kat could tell that much. She could here evil chuckled coming from all around in the darkness. I snatched her from the sidewalk as she was walking past the alley the one that was holding her said. She closed her eyes she didn’t want to see what was coming to her. She just wanted it to be over with, he knew that she was going to die but when and how was unknown to her. All she wanted to do was cry but held back her tears. Please god let someone come save me! she screamed inside her head over and over.

Licentra was perched against a wall, her black hooded coat covering her overall appearance as she watched the people walk by. She remained in the shadows, hidden and knew she would be left to herself. Licentra had this tone about her that basically said that she would kill you if you even layed a finger on her. "Oh what the hell." She whispered as she pulled out a cigarette that she stole from Drake. And what she meant by stealing was taking it out right in front of him. She lit it and took in a long drag before coughing and stared at the cigarette in her hand. "Is it really worth it?" She studied the small thing comically and laughed before tossing it aside.
Licentra froze as she smelled a vampire close by, small hairs poking out as she heard the soft murmurs of the vampire. She looked up to see a dark alley, but nothing else, just someone shifting about. Licentra moved forward shifting into a wolf as she growled low in her chest and tackled the vampire. "Leave the girl alone!" She growled as she bit into the vampire as she suddenly felt herself thrown back against the wall. A growl grew louder as she pounced towards the vampire again. She no longer could smell the vampire or come into contact with it so she assumed everyone was safe.
Licentra glanced around, the moonlight sparkling off of her white coat as her blue eyes now rested on the young girl. She slowly approached her before stopping and sitting. She assumed that the girl was a bit afraid and well, she wanted to let the girl come on her own if she wanted. She like providing others with the chance to judge her in their own ways. She watched the girl with soft, patient eyes.

Kat shook with fear as she stood there in the grasp of this man, surrounded by other men. She could feel his icy skin under his clothes. She didn’t want to die. Yeah fair enough she had lost everything in her entire world but she didn’t want to go out like this. She then heard a hiss, a vampiric hiss. These men weren’t men at all they were vampires. How did they know she was there? Maybe they had been following her. This wasn’t happening; they then started to argue among each other. She was too scared to even make out what they were saying. All she knew was that they were going to kill her, and soon.
She finally opened her eyes after leaving them closed for so long. At first her vision was blurry, soon it started to become clearer but it was still too dark in the alley as it was before. The vampire that held her, his grip became tighter and she couldn’t even swallow the lump in her throat, she was too filled with fear. They were arguing on how to take it in turns in feeding from her and she felt as though she was going to pee her pants, but she was just too scared to do anything. She then heard a growl and it wasn’t vampiric, it was something else. She tried to look around but she couldn’t see anything in the darkness. Oh why couldn’t the clouds just move away from the moon so she could have some light?
The vampire had also grown silent from the strange growl, soon followed more growls and it was like the vampires knew what the growling was saying. To Kat it was just normal everyday growling. Suddenly she was flung out of the vampires grip and she hit the hard dirty wall. She slid to the ground, she tried to see what was going on but she could only see shapes and hear growls and pained hisses. It seemed like it went on for hours the hissing and the growling. Suddenly it stopped and went silent and she couldn’t see anything, no figures. She couldn’t hear any more hissing or growling. What the hell just happened? Was she just rescued by a dog? It was the only thing she could think of that growled. Soon she could hear soft padding on the ground and a figure stopped in front of her.
Then finally the clouds decided to move and the alley was filled with light. Before her was a dog, no wait it wasn’t an ordinary dog, it was a wolf. Her eyes widened at what her eyes were looking at. It was the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. Its fur was white and silky looking and its eyes were mesmerizing. Being there with it she didn’t feel scared anymore. It was like wolf absorbed all her fear and replaced it with joy and happiness. She was still crouched on the ground but it didn’t take long for her to gather herself up and slowly approach the wolf. She held out a small dirty hand to the wolf and gently touched the fur around its neck. Its fur was as soft as it looked and she couldn’t help the smile across her face.
Why had this wolf helped her? Why was there a wolf here in the neighbourhood? Oh well she didn’t know and she didn’t care. She owed this wolf her life and she would repay it in any way she could. She didn’t know how you repaid a wolf but she would figure something out. She sat back on her legs so that she was eye level with the wolf, she couldn’t get over how amazingly beautiful it was. “Thank you” she said not sure if the animal could understand her, but she didn’t care. She didn’t even care if someone was too see her talking to a wolf, no matter how insane she might look she has to thank it for saving her life. Even if it couldn’t understand what she was saying. Her heart started to beat against her rib cage. She was alive!

Licentra did her best as a smile, her head leaning towards the little girl’s touch as she slowly pressed her cold nose to the girls cheek before softly licking the girls cheek playfully. Something about her reaction to Licentra’s presence had instantly made her feel attached to this little girl. She had a sense of healing, something that no other creature could do. When you are younger and have a pure heart like this young one in front of Licentra, just showing love, it works its magic like nothing else can. It’s not something that only appears on the outside. It’s something that is and works its way even into the deepest wounds, only to patch those sensitive emotions right up.
The small kind words made Licentra wag her tail, the soft thumping creating a small sound that was just loud enough to be heard. Licentra licked the girl’s cheek again softly before laying down, her head coming to rest on the little girl’s lap. She couldn’t help but hate how much vampires attacked humans such as these little ones. They were one of the most precious creations that existed. She hadn’t really across any situations such as this one, but she always knew she was very protective. She had always had such instincts even when she was younger when her brother was around. A whimper escaped her rather large frame for a wolf, but not as big as a werewolf should be. She brushed her head into the girls stomach softly, her ears perking up a little.
Slowly, Licentra rose to her feet and nudged the girls arm softly and gently tugged at the shirt of this girl before letting go and heading towards the opening of the alley. She made her way slowly forward before she arrived at her house. Licentra clawed the door open and walked in, hoping the girl was still following her. She quickly ran up to her bedroom and shifted back into a human. She threw on some jeans and a black tank top before exiting the room, hoping the little girl wouldn’t be scared. She moved downstairs slowly and quietly before entering the guest room, searching for the girl, honestly hoping she wouldn’t be scared and run away.
Licentra honestly wouldn’t be too surprised if the girl ran out of the house screaming her little lungs out. The idea of a werewolf was a bit traumatizing at first sound, but it was a truth she had to face herself when she was younger. Werewolves don’t have a choice, but once they do get control of themselves if they are a pureblood, they can choose to be a monster and hurt their reputation more or choose to be protectors. Licentra chose the latter of the two options and finds it definitely to make her happier and others also, but there were still moments that people assumed the worst of her which brought her some pain underneath her tough appearance. Kat smiled greatly when the wolf licked her face, it was such strange behaviour from a wolf, but she didn’t care she love it. She had always been a fan of the K9 species and having this wolf being so affectionate was fantastic. She was just so happy to be alive and that this wolf wasn’t attacking her. She would have thought that a wolf would have attacked her attackers because it wanted Kat for herself, but it wasn’t the case at all. She was actually being friendly, like it had all intentions to save her life and maul her to death. It was the strangest but the most wonderful thing that had ever happened to her.
After Kat thanked the wolf it started to wag its tail the soft noise it made every time it hit the pavement was cute and Kat couldn’t help but smile. So the wolf had understood her after all. Kat began to think that there was something to this wolf that didn’t meet the eye, something deeper. It should have been a frightful thought but for Kat it was the opposite. She grew more and more interested in the wolf by the minute. She wanted to learn all she could about it. Kat smiled and a small chuckle left her lips as the wolf laid its head on her lap, it was the cutest thing she had ever seen. She rubbed the wolf’s neck some more.
She could feel the warmth from the wolf warming her legs and the slight shivering in her body slowly left. The wolf was like a big blanket and it made Kat just want to curl up and snuggled into its fur. The whole thought of being in the dark and smelly alley way had completely left her mind now all she was interested in was the wolf. Soon the wolf brushed its head against her stomach and perked up its ears. Kat watched the wolf for a moment and it soon got to its feet. She watched it for a moment and smiled when it tugged at her shirt. The wolf wanted her to follow it and when it headed for the exit of the alley way.
Kat got to her feet her legs a little wobbly from sitting on them for so long, but she still managed to take off after it. She wondered where the wolf might be talking her but it wasn’t a huge issue, she was just happy to away from that alley way and back out into the moon light. Its rays always made her feel better, she looked around spotted the wolf and took off at a jog, she had to move fast just to keep up with her, and she didn’t want to lose it. It wasn’t long until the wolf slowed down and headed towards a house. This was very confusing to Kat, why would a wolf need to be at a house?
She stopped at the driveway and watched as the wolf scratched open the door and took off inside. She slowly walked up the driveway, caution had taken over her now, she wasn’t sure why they were here or who even lived in this house. Was she even supposed to be going near it? She shrugged and continued towards the front door which was still open. She had worse things than with to survive. She stopped at the front door and looked around; she saw the wolf disappear up the stairs. It was little dark inside but there seemed to be a light coming in from upstairs.
She waited just inside the door way when she heard footsteps upstairs and soon a woman came down the stairs. Where had the wolf gone? She thought to herself as she backed up just a little bit, just in case the woman was the owner of the house and she was coming down the stairs to tell her off for being in her house. But when the woman came down and she seemed to be looking for something. Kat was still confused; she stepped out of the shadows towards the woman and got a good look at her. Her eyes were familiar, she was the wolf! Kat could tell from her eyes, even though they were a different colour they were the same! “You’re the wolf, aren’t you?” she asked with a smile and curiosity in her voice.

Licentra waged her tail more and noticed the girl could tell she wasn’t an ordinary wolf or dog of any sort. She was able to understand and know what was going on and had a big heart for those in need. Licentra was truly that way and I showed more so right now. She wanted to help this girl more and be there to protect her and for a moment felt obligated to doing so. She didn’t know why, but she had quickly grown a bond over this young girl and had pledged through her actions to doing so.
Licentra was glad this girl was trusting her and hope it would grow and maybe even become like a family type of trust. Licentra didn’t consider anyone family and maybe this would be her one chance to have one. She kind of is giving up on her brother because of the whole recent incident with his “friend” coming to her and then beating her up. She did not deserve such a treatment and she felt offended that her brother would send such a barbarian to her doorstep. Well, to the hills, but either way, she considered it a bit of an invasion.
Licentra could feel curiosity coming from behind her as she inched through the door. She knew the girl was wondering what was going on and how this was making sense because a wolf and a house, together, just aren’t logical. A small bit of irony made her want to laugh, but she was a wolf, she really couldn’t laugh without sounding ridiculous. Oh well, she just hoped this little girl would trust her enough to hold the truth and not be scared because of it.
After Licentra came down, the smile said everything when she began talking to the young girl. “Yes, I am. Umm..I’m glad you aren’t scared of the whole idea. Most don’t react so nicely to the idea.” She said wincing and kneeled down next to the girl. “Not to interrupt, but are you okay? And do you have parents? I’d rather have you home safe than have you get in trouble, little one. I promise, I will keep contact with you if that’s the case.” She said, looking up at the girl, because she was just a little taller than Licentra when she was kneeling.
Licentra smiled softly at the young girl. She was amazing. She was not scared and didn’t change her opinion about this young werewolf. The name was a bit scary if you truly thought about it. It’s appearance isn’t really something that is talked about in a good way around town. This name like stated before was dragged through the mud. Licentra wrapped her arms around the girl in a tight comforting hug. For some reason, Licentra just had the instinct to do that and she felt so attached to the girl right now as though she were her own daughter which was odd because she has never had a child to take care of before, but this was obviously just naturally coming to her. Kat watched the girl as she the woman before her. She wasn’t frightened by the woman, how could she be she had saved her life and even if she could turn into a wolf it didn’t mean Kat didn’t feel the same way about her then when she knew that she was just a wolf. Knowing that this wolf was actually a woman as well, Kat was excited to know that she had found a new friend. She knew that she was going to be this woman’s friend forever because she didn’t have any friends, except for Wolfgang. The woman then spoke to her after Kat had asked her question. “I am not afraid, I like it is wonderful that you can turn into a wolf. I can only just imagine how much fun that would be” she said taking a breath as she had just blurted it all out in one go. After she got her breath back she when to keep talking but was cut short by the woman’s words. Kat remained silent and listened intently. The woman asked if she had parents and that she would rather her be home safely and not get into trouble.
Kat bit the inside of her mouth as she thought about her parents; it had been a long time since they were on her mind. The woman then lent down and rested on her knees in front of Kat and looked up at her. Kat looked back at her and smiled, she had learnt how to push the upset of her parents away every time she thought or spoke about them. “I don’t have parents, well not anymore, they were killed by Vampires a couple of years ago” she said and looked away from the woman again. She couldn’t look at her for long because it was hard for her to not cry when the memories of her families murder came flooding back. She tried so hard to block them out but they were just too strong for her to get rid of. Moments later she felt the woman embrace her in a hug and a single tear ran down her cheek. She was tough but sometimes it was good to let the tears flow, even if it was just one. She reached up and hugged the woman back and she smiled. It had been a long time since she had a hug.
Kat didn’t want to let go, she was just so comfortable there in this woman’s arms. She could feel the warmth coming from her body and warming her from head to toe. It was the same warmth that she had felt when she was in wolf form and she had reached her head on Kat’s lap. It was just so comforting her warmth, it was like nothing could touch her and she was going to be safe again. She felt safe knowing that she didn’t have to fight for her life every night, not with having a werewolf as her friend. Her only friend. Kat slowly pulled away from the woman and smiled to her, her little hands clutched the woman’s arms like she was scared that she was going to just fade away and she was going to be alone again. "My name is Katarzyna, but I like Kat better, easier to remember I think” she said and giggled, she was just so happy and felt so safe. She might have been young but she had been through too much stuff in her life to know the different between good and evil and this woman was good.

A smile came onto Licentra’s lips as she heard the young girl say that the fact she could turn into a wolf was wonderful. Not too many people ever said that to her and it was very encouraging. Sometimes being a wolf wasn’t easy, so she didn’t necessarily think it was awesome to have this hidden other half of her all the time. She took a risk telling her and the only reason she did was because of how the girl reacted in the alley way. When Licentra heard about her parents being killed by vampires, she grew rather quite and a bit solemn as anger welled up so much she nearly started crying. She couldn’t help but wrap her arms around the little girl because so much had happened to her and all she wanted to do was to comfort her, to be there for her. This girl also had a beautiful name, even if it wasn’t said fully usually. “Well, Kat, would you like to live with me? I can’t imagine you have a place to stay that’s decent. And you can be protected here.” She spoke softly and pulled away, trying to get a look at Kat’s eyes.
Licentra, at this time, did not have anyone she loved nor did she have anyone she was watching over. She had always wanted a child, even though she enjoyed living alone most of the time. She couldn’t think more of a perfect idea for this young girl because she basically had nothing and she could definitely provide for Kat. “You can say no because I’m technically a stranger, but my door would always be open to you.” She said with a nod towards the small human girl. She couldn’t imagine what this girl had been through if her parents had been dead for a few years. Where had she been or stayed for those years? Was she being taken care of in a foster home or something? She didn’t know, but she wasn’t about to pry because she didn’t know how the girl would react to this. She didn’t want to bring up anything else because the idea of her parents might have already made her think of sad memories. She definitely didn’t want this little girl to be hurt anymore than she already was.
“Are you hungry?” She questioned randomly as she sighed, wondering still what this girl’s background was for a few years. She probably has had a little bit of help from several people, but she couldn’t be positive about such things. Besides, Licentra was a bit hungry herself and she was a bit of a decent cook, but first, she wanted to wait for the girl’s response to her question because then she could show her a spare room in which she would be staying. Well, if she stayed, the room would be redone so that she could be more comfortable living here.

Kat saw the smile on the woman’s face after Kat spoke of thinking that her being a werewolf was awesome. She mustn’t tell very many people about what she was, which was understandable, a lot of people these days are either to scare about what they know about the world of Darkness, or they are just too arrogant to realise what was going on in the world. Kat smiled back at the Lycan, she was pleased that this woman didn’t want to eat her for dinner. Kat had met a couple of Lycan’s in her time on the streets and none of them have been even remotely close to nice then this one. She was glad she wasn’t a monster. Soon Kat explained about not having any parents and the girl before her had grown quite, and Kat was hoping she hadn’t enraged the sleeping giant within in the Lycan. Suddenly the woman approached her and she was scared for a split second but realised she was only giving her a hug and she returned the favour. The woman then asked her a question in mid hug; Kat was silent for a moment as she thought the question through a little.
The woman then pulled away from Kat and looked at her, she didn’t know what to say, she was absolutely surprised. Then images of having a home to come to and someone there with you all the time, flashed across Kats vision. She couldn’t help but smile she loved the idea of come here to live. She looked towards the woman for the first time since Kat had mentioned her mother and father she made eye contact with the Lycan. Her eyes were beautiful caring and assuring that Kat would be safe here. The woman then said that she could say no, because of the fact that she was a stranger, and she also said that her door would always be home for her. Kat smile at these words. “I would like to stay, I would like that very much” she said and took of the woman’s hand; she didn’t even know what her name was yet. Kat looked around the house and smiled, it was warm and welcoming, just the way a home should be. The only creatures in the world that Kat didn’t like was Vampires, Kat had a feeling that it was something that they both had in common.
Kat was dragged into memories of all the vampires she had been almost discovered by, it wasn’t for her ability to not be detected by vampires she would probably be either dead or a vampire herself and she knew that if she was ever changed with would walk straight out into the sunlight the very next morning and take her own life, before she could take someone else’s. It was just how she was, she couldn’t be a vampire, she couldn’t see herself as a Lycan but she didn’t have a problem with them, yeah sure the ones she had meet in the past never wanted to eat her but they were just really rude and just not very nice, but she knew that there would be one Lycan out there that wasn’t rude and was very nice and she had found that Lycan today. Kat was snapped back away from her thoughts when the woman asked her another question. Her stomach grumbled before she could even grasp the question. She looked down at her stomach and smiled; she rubbed it slightly and looked back up. “Yeah, I guess I am” she said, “These days I have learnt to block out the hungry feeling, so with mentioning it, my stomach went crazy” she said and laughed.

A pleased smile rose to her lips at Kat’s response. She hoped she was ultimately helping this girl because she had a feeling she hadn’t had much to hold onto for a long time. She honestly couldn’t imagine what this girl had been through for the past few years. She suddenly felt a warm, soft hand slip into hers, so she naturally gripped her hand back gently. “Listen, I will never hurt you and I promise, I will fight for you even if it means I die. I don’t know what you’ve been through hun, but I will always try to work through anything with you.” Licentra whispered while keeping eye contact with her, every word containing a motherly tone. She wasn’t quite sure as to why she was growing attached to this girl, but she wasn’t about to let that factor affect her current decision. “Come on. We ought to show you where you will be sleeping. I imagine you’re tired.” She whispered while rising to her feet and still grasping Kat’s hand. “My name is Licentra, by the way.” She whispered figuring the little girl ought to know her guardian’s name. Slowly, she made her way across the room and opened the first door to a burgundy colored room. “We’ll decorate this room later so it fits your liking my dear.” She said with a warm smile.
A laugh came from Licentra as Kat’s stomach growled which most certainly answered her question. “Alright, you allergic to anything or is there anything you know you can’t have to eat or drink?” She question Kat just making sure that she was taking good care of the child standing beside her now. “More importantly, is there anything specifically you want to eat, my dear?” Licentra wanted to make her as comfortable and as welcome as possible, even though she wasn’t completely positive on how to do that. Now, a new worry invaded her mind as her thoughts edged back towards the vampire in that alley. She was concerned that maybe one day this vampire would return for Kat. Licentra’s hand gently squeezed Kat’s shoulder as she pulled her closer, a protective phase growing over her once more. “And by the way, my bedroom is upstairs, directly above your room, just in case you need anything while it’s bed time or in the middle of the night.” She whispered what would have been normal, but it was more of a protective mechanism than anything. A yawn came from Licentra, feeling a bit exhausted from the day’s events.
Thoughts of what the future was like came to mind as her orbs shifted down to gaze at Kat in a blank stare. Part of her was glad that she did not have a significant other in her life because she would fear that Kat’s story of how she got here would not be that appealing. At the same time, she kind of wanted someone she could depend on, love, and trust with this. She blinked back to reality as she sighed, a bit confused. “Oh and most importantly, ask any questions you have. I’m a very layed back and patient person so don’t worry about saying things in front of me. Some rules I want you to follow are don’t leave the house unless you have my permission and if anyone asks who you are, say you are adopted. That’s all I ask of you. It’s a safety thing.” She explained, hoping they wouldn’t have any difficulties with these rules. Plus, she might actually take custody of this girl, if everything meshes well. Something caught her eye as she looked at the large blood stain coming through her shirt. She could feel Kat’s eyes following hers, a bit of worry in them. “Don’t worry. I’m fine.” She said reassuringly as she lifted up her shirt, revealing smooth skin. “See. That’s why if I ever jump in front of someone or you in order to take the pain, you shouldn’t worry about me considering the pain only last for a few moments as long as it’s not too bad. Broken bones take longer though.” She spoke softly with a smile even.

Katarzyna smiled at the wolf-girls words, it made her feel like she belonged somewhere, that someone cared for her. Although she had never felt this way before she knew that she meant it. In return she would do all she could to help her as well. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to protect her against anything but she would help her in other ways. She would help around the house, she would go to school if that made her happy, she would try and get a job somewhere she knew that she was at the moment too young to work in many of the places around town but she would surely be able to find a place that would take her on. That way she would be able to help the wolf-girl pay for things, bills, food she could give her some money every week for her room here. “Thank you” she said sweetly and smiled. She really did appreciate everything she had done for her.
Kat smiled as the girl wolf stood and held out her hand to her, she was rather tired and she was excited that she was going to see where she would be sleeping. The thought of sleeping in an actual bed made her smile greatly. It had been so long since she had slept in a bed she was scared she wasn’t going to like the feeling. It didn’t take long for that fear to vanish, of course she was going to like it, it was a bed for heaven’s sake, an actual bed with blankets and a pillow. She smiled up to Licentra and gave her hand a little squeeze when she told Kat her name. Her eyes widened when she stepped into the room that was soon to be hers. Even though it wasn’t much she didn’t care it was perfect to her. She looked up at Licentra when she told her that they could re-decorate it, she had have been dreaming there was no way that this was real. She had to pinch herself to make sure.
After giving herself a little pinch on the arm and frowning against the pain she smiled to know that she wasn’t dreaming and that this was really real. Soon Licentra as her if she was allergic to anything, Kat thought about it for a moment but couldn’t recall anything from her past ever being bad for her to eat or drink. “No nothing” she said and held onto Licentra’s hand even tighter, she was scared that if she let go then she would just fade away and all of this would be over. She didn’t even want Licentra to leave her. Licentra then told her reassuringly that her bedroom was right about hers if she was ever to need anything. Kat then threw her arms around Licentra in a tight hug, she was just so happy to have met her; everything was going to be alright now. She was safe. Kat nodded to her list of simple rules, Kat knew that it was going to be different now having to listen to someone else but she knew it was for her own good and Licentra was only looking out for her.
Kat frowned when she saw that Licentra had been hurt in the process of saving her life, but her words about pain not lasting long any her feel better. “I don’t want you to hurt at all” she said and looked to the floor. Nobody she ever be hurt for her, she was just a small stupid kid. Her belly rumbled again and she placed her hand over her stomach. Licentra wondered what Kat was thinking through because right now she did not want Kat to have any second thoughts or think she has any obligations besides those two rules. Right now, Kat would just have to relax and be herself because Licentra wanted to help her through things until everything became figured out. “You are most certainly welcome hun.” She said softly, returning the smile, knowing she was helping this child by just giving her care that she probably had not received in a long time. “One thing, just remember, you have as much time as you need to relax and stuff because I will allow it so. I know you probably have had several rough times in these last few years. I’m not going to dance around your problems, my dear. I am trying to help you through them and in whatever way you need my help, you let me know. Alright?” She asked in a gentle tone, meaning every word spoken from her lips, hoping that Kat understood also.
A smile came to her lips as Kat squeezed her hand with a smile and looked up at her and Licentra returned a pleased gaze. The satisfaction of knowing she could provide this young girl with something she wanted and had not had for a long time, made her feel all “warm and fuzzy” on the inside. Nothing had ever seemed to be more satisfying than moments such as these. She watched the girl continue to get more and more excited because of her words and it actually brought pure joy to her, which hadn’t happened since she had seen her brother last. “How long has it been since you have had something like this? A room, a bed, a place to stay?” She asked, knowing she was about to start crying because this girl had such a big heart and everything had gotten ripped away from her that it was just so hard for Licentra to stand the thought of. She slowly came to kneel next to Kat, looking into her eyes. She really wanted to help Kat in whatever way she could, feeling as though she was the mother of Kat now.
“Good, come, I’m going to make some macaroni and cheese and maybe some hot dogs or something. I need some more stuff from the store. I don’t eat much by myself. You’ll probably help me break that habit a little.” She said laughing softly as she looked at the girl, feeling her hand tighten around her own. “It’s okay Kat. I’m not going anywhere.” She felt Kat wrap her arms around her and smiled warmly as her arms wrapped around her snuggly, her eyes closing. “Listen, I’m always here. If you need to come up to my room at all during these next nights, you may. I imagine that you have some fears or some issues that I don’t know about.” She whispered, hoping she would give the girl any possibility of comfort that was available, but she had a feeling that even now she would come short. Licentra blinked for a moment remembering she had to go start dinner. Slowly, she rose to her feet after the hug ended and headed towards the kitchen, still holding onto Kat’s small hand with a gentle smile.
“I know, but my life is less valuable than yours my dear. And it would take me a lot to die. So don’t worry.” She said with a smile as her hand gently came to rub her back for a moment. Licentra yawned softly, the feeling of tiredness setting in now. She would imagine they would both soon be happily asleep. The only thing that worried Licentra at this point was what if the vampire returned. It was a possibility that she wasn’t about to completely ignore.

Kat beamed with happiness as Licentra told her that she was welcome. She felt more at home here then she did at her old home with her mother and father. Yeah she loved her mother and father but they weren’t the most attentive parents in the world. It was all about work and making sure they were getting all the money that they could get their hands on. In the end that worked out good for Kat because she knew where their stash was and when they were killed she took it. That way she had some money to survive, but little did she know it wouldn’t last long, as she didn’t know much about how things worked in the real world and she was soon out of money, but she got by. She would soon get a job to help Licentra out. Then Licentra went on to explain that she would help her through any problems she might have and it made her feel better knowing that she didn’t have to do all the hard things in her life on her own any more. “Thank you”.
Kat absolutely loved her new room, she really was so happy to be here and she didn’t know if she would ever be able to re-pay Licentra for her generosity but she sure would as hell try. Kat was a stranger to Licentra and to see her compassion for a stranger was a very good trait to have. Kat owed her life to Licentra and she would never upset her or purposely make her mad. Licentra then asked her when the last time she had, had a place like this to stay in and she had to think back a long time. When she lived with her mother and father she had a nice room and plenty of things to entertain herself with but after she left and was on her own, she never really ever had a place to stay that was comfortable. Usually she would just find a nice looking tree to sleep in or sneak into someone back yard and sleep on their trampoline. “Well, I had a nice bed when my parents were still alive but since then I haven’t slept in a real bed, maybe two years”
After explaining that to Licentra she didn’t feel sad or anything, she knew that her parents were dead but there was nothing she could do about that now. They would be happy knowing that she had someone like Licentra looking after her now. Kat wasn’t even sad about having to live on the streets and in trees, she knew now that she would never have to sleep in a tree or in someone’s back yard ever again. Kat looked up at Licentra when she announced that she was going to make some macaroni and cheese and she couldn’t keep the smile from her face. “I love Mac and Cheese” she said almost jumping up and down. She couldn’t even remember the last time she had actually had it. Her mother used to make it for her on the off occasion that she wasn’t to be a mother. It would make Kat happy when she was in those moods but it never lasted long. Her father would come home complaining that the stock markets weren’t going good.
As soon as her father came home she would forget all about the fact that she had a daughter, and Kat would be on her own again, she would have no one to enjoy her Mac and cheese with. Sharing a hug with Licentra made her forget about all the times she was on her own and she would hear her mother and father arguing about money. She didn’t ever want to let Licentra go, she smiled at her as she pulled away and told her that she would always be there for her and if she ever needed her for anything that she was only just up the stairs. “I am so glad to hear that” she said and smiled, and her stomach rumbled again and she remember that she was going to be eating Mac and cheese soon and it made her smile. She hadn’t smiled this much, well ever and she liked it. After telling Licentra that she didn’t want her to hurt at all, Licentra told her that her life was much more important then her own and Kat didn’t believe it.
She knew that Licentra was just as important as she was, but even if Licentra didn’t think so Kat sure did. Kat looked around the kitchen as they entered it and smiled. It was a lovely kitchen, very home like. Unlike the kitchen she had before, this one actually made you want to cook and bake cakes. Kat hoped that one day her and Licentra would be able to bake a cake together. She spotted a stood next to the kitchen bench and pulled it out and sat down. It felt so good to sit down and she felt a yawn coming on. She was definitely tired but she was just too hungry to sleep. She knew that once she had eaten she would be asleep in no time and the thought about sleeping in a real bed made her more and more excited about going to sleep tonight. “Would you like me to help you with the Mac and Cheese, Licentra?” she asked saying her name with love, she truly did feel that she would love this girl just like she would a mother.
